A green roof (ready-to-lay sedum cassettes or mats) insulates better than a bare roof and retains part of the rainwater, on top of bringing biodiversity to a surface that would otherwise be wasted. Sedum is favored for this because it tolerates drought well and, once established, needs far less upkeep than a classic lawn.
