Shrubs

Shrubs give shape to a hedge, a border or a corner of the garden without the upkeep a tree needs. Evergreen or deciduous, most are pruned once or twice a year to keep their form — flowering varieties right after they bloom, so next year's buds aren't cut off. In a hedge, spacing between plants depends on how vigorously the species grows and how dense you want the line to be.
